Counseling Department
The Counseling Department
The counseling department at Keene Central School offers a wide variety of services to address all students’ academic, career and personal/social needs.
Mrs. Jatha Johnson School Counselor 7-12
Ms. Nicole Gabrielsen School Counselor K-6
The school counselors and school psychologist serve as a liaison between many people and services involved in the student's educational journey.
School counselors are able to provide academic, career, and/or personal/social services through individual, classroom lessons, and referral to community agencies.
Talk to Someone
Brief individual counseling is available to all students during school hours and by appointment to help with academic, career and personal/social needs.
If you are struggling academically or socially, you can seek assistance from a school counselor or our school psychologist. We are trained to listen, help, and connect you with further supports if needed!
Students are encouraged to meet with their counselors regularly throughout their academic journey.
Essex County Mental Health Satellite Clinic
KCS has a partnership with Essex County Mental Health services. We are able to offer a confidential space here at KCS for K-12 clients to be seen by an ECMH counselor during the school day on Friday’s throughout the year. This service allows students who receive outside counseling services in the community to be seen consistently and without major challenges in missing school, parent work time and/or associated transportation challenges. Please contact your school counselor or school psychologist for more information or you may contact their main office directly:

Community Agency Referrals
Counselors can also assist in referring students to community agencies. Counselors are in continual contact with multiple professionals throughout the community and can help ease the transition, if need be. Some of the community agencies include mental health services, department of social services, extracurricular activities or groups, family counseling, support groups, etc. Please feel free to speak to your counselor about the different agencies available to you.
