2025-26 Budget Revote Public Hearing @ KCS Tuesday June 3, @ 5:30pm: Budget Revote @ KCS Tuesday June 17th
Keene Central School is a vital and cherished part of the community life and cultural tradition of Keene Valley, NY. Located on the Au Sable River in the heart of the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks, this rural K-12 public school serves the children of Keene and Keene Valley in one building, under one roof.
Keene Central School District is locally run, benefits from a close relationship among teachers, staff, students and families, and is strengthened by unparalleled community involvement.
From 1996 through June 2014 it was my privilege to have led the Keene Central School as Principal and Superintendent. When asked to support the district through this period of transition in leadership, created by Mr. Mayberry’s departure, I considered it an honor to have been asked and was unable to say “no”.
Over these next six months, the District will work to find the next generational leader to serve this outstanding school. I encourage each parent, staff and community members to lend their voice to the discussion. My door is open for a visit and to hear your opinions and ideas. What do you value about this community and the role the school plays in making it a special place to live?
All schools face challenges. For Keene, sustaining a consistent student population, being able to provide a high quality academic program given our population and maintaining fiscal viability have remained consistent over the years. The district and community must find the best educational opportunities for the young people for whom we are responsible. Working together, the district and the community, we can make that possible.
I share your love for this community and this school. Together we can find the next generational leader. Thank you for your support in the coming months.
Sincerely,
Cynthia Ford-Johnston
“Mrs. J.”
