IT Department
Data Protection Officer
The Data Protection Officer is responsible for overseeing the district’s data privacy strategy and ensuring that we protect the personal information of our students, families, and employees. As schools increasingly use digital tools for learning and administration, the DPO acts as an independent advocate for privacy and a bridge between the school, technology providers, and the community.
Primary Responsibilities:
-
Compliance Oversight: Ensuring the district complies with privacy laws (such as FERPA, COPPA, and NYS Education Law 2-d).
-
Data Security: Reviewing the privacy policies and security protocols of third-party software and vendors before they are used in the classroom.
-
Risk Management: Monitoring for potential data breaches and leading the response and notification process if a security incident occurs.
-
Training & Advocacy: Educating staff and students on "best practices" for digital safety and data hygiene.
-
Point of Contact: Serving as the dedicated resource for parents and residents who have questions or concerns about how their child’s data is collected, stored, or shared.
Our Commitment: We believe that protecting student privacy is essential to creating a safe and effective learning environment. The DPO works to ensure that our technology use remains innovative while keeping our community’s most sensitive information secure.
