The small, rural hamlets of Keene and Keene Valley are located in Essex County, New York. The Keene/Keene Valley region is approximately 12 miles from Lake Placid, NY, host of the Olympic Winter Games in 1932 and 1980.
Referred to as the heart of the High Peaks region of the 6 million acre Adirondack State Park, Keene is home to Mount Marcy, the highest mountain in New York at an elevation of 5,344 feet. The scenic East Branch of the Ausable River winds through the valley.
This region has long been a popular retreat for writers, artists, nature lovers and others who find inspiration from the beauty of the natural surroundings. It is also a favorite destination for visitors who enjoy the many outdoor recreational opportunities that exist in the Adirondacks.
