The music students at KCS have the privilege of being chosen to go to two separate Essex County Music Festivals. If selected, both Middle School and High School students perform with other students from around the county in one of five groups: Mixed Chorus (MS, HS), Women’s Chorus (HS), Band (MS, HS), Jazz Band (HS) or Orchestra (MS, HS).

A few of our students audition for Area All-State, which includes Essex County, Clinton County, and Franklin County (NYSSMA Zone 6). KCS has a good record of having auditioning students going on to participate in either Mixed Chorus, Women’s Chorus, Jazz Band or Wind Ensemble. This is normally for High School students, but we have had several 8 th graders accepted in the past.

NYSSMA Solo Festival is held every May, and we have sent students to perform either vocal or instrumental solos or small ensembles. Some performances in the past have earned students automatic acceptance into Area All-State. We have yet to have a student accepted into Conference All-State (the entire state), but we are hopeful that this will happen soon.
