Music Program
Keene Central School (KCS) has a music program that involves the entire K-12 student body, as well as several faculty and community members. The students are involved in General Music classes from Kindergarten through 5 th grade. 6 th through 8 th grades are required to take Chorus, at which time they also receive general music instruction.
The school has 3 official choruses: 4 th & 5 th Grade Chorus, Middle School Chorus, and High School Chorus. Only High School Chorus is optional. There are also 3 bands: Beginner Band, Middle School Band, and High School Band, all of which are voluntary. Beginners may start their instruments in 5 th grade. Lessons are given weekly on a rotating basis to ensure that no student misses a class more than twice in a marking period.
Additionally, KCS offers 4 Distance Learning (DL) classes at the present time. These are: Music Theory, Music History, Music Appreciation, and Broadway History. These are elective courses offered in the DL lab, where KCS students have the opportunity to share classes with distant schools (mainly South Glens Falls for music).
